There is no everyday life in jazz, is there? is the title of a solo performance dedicated to the life of F. Scott Fitzgerald that kicked off Soiree Éclectique… Belle Rives Hotel Cap d’Antibes was taken back in time to the 1920s and 1930s for a look at Fitzgerald, great American writer, singer, and paragon of the Jazz Age. Because his surprisingly sensitive, delicate, and exquisite novels showed over and again the author’s strong and fanciful character, the venue for our first event had to be equally overflowing with emotion and feeling.
Fitzgerald was played by Egor Beroev, a well-known Russian actor and graduate of Mikhail Shchepkin Higher Theatre College. He has worked at the Moscow Art Theatre since 1994, and is the veteran of more than 20 films.
At the keyboard was Basinia Shulman, one of Russia’s great pianists and a graduate of Gnessin Academy and Moscow Conservatory (in the special pianist class under Eliso Virsaladze), who also studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels under the tutelage of Evgeny Mogilevsky. She has performed with New Opera, the Moscow Symphony Orchestra, and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Konstantin Orbelyan and many others.
